Junior League of Edmonton announces $25,000 centennial grant
Charities for children, youth and families at risk invited to apply

Edmonton, AB, April 27, 2005: The Junior League of Edmonton is inviting local charities to apply for a special one-time centennial grant of $25,000 to improve the lives of children, youth and families at risk, says League president Kim Krushell.

"The Junior League of Edmonton has been improving the Edmonton community for three-quarters of the past century. To celebrate our legacy in this, Alberta's centennial year, we have allocated an additional $25,000 to our Community Assistance Fund for projects in our focus area of children, youth and families at risk."

The deadline for applications is June 10, 2005. The League reserves the right to divide the $25,000 among two or more applicants.

The Community Assistance Fund was established in 1986 to help meet critical or emergency areas of need in the community. Grants are not accompanied by a commitment of volunteer time and vary in amount. For this granting cycle only, the League will allow applications from charities that have received a Community Assistance Fund grant within the past three years.

Organizations requesting funds must be registered charities, operate within the Edmonton area, support goals that are congruent with those of the League and have a specific and defined use for the funds requested. Requests will not be considered for operating or administrative expenses, salaries, funding drives, political campaigns or individuals.

The application guidelines are available on the League's website at www.jledmonton.org or by calling (780) 433-9739.

Established in 1928 as the Junior Hospital League, the Junior League of Edmonton is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
